Putting the “Play” Back in Word Play
Take advantage of terrific tips and techniques for building vocabulary and supporting word study. Learn ways to make your morning meeting more productive with “A Week of Wonderful Word Warm-ups.” Reinforce word study in the context of shared and guided reading and writing workshop. Poems, picture books, puzzles and reading manipulatives from the dollar store are just a few of the tools we’ll share in this fun-filled, interactive session.
Making the Reading-Writing Connection
Any book worth reading to our students is worth reading twice: once as a reader and once as a writer! In this session, we will talk about using books as springboards for writing and as tools for teaching the writer’s craft.
Finding the Balance in Literacy Instruction
What do we mean by “balanced literacy”? This session will provide ideas for reading and writing to children, by children and with children. You’ll learn how to balance the reading block and the writing block, and how to integrate word study into both.
